The XI Polish Clergy Chess Championships in Łomża.
The XI Polish Clergy Chess Championships were hosted in the Higher Seminary in Łomża from 9th to 14th July.
The championships gathered eighteen chess players from different parts of Poland and the world. These were: Fr. Stanisław Dębowski from Kałków-Godów, D Radom; Fr. Robert Rembecki, Warsaw, Arch. Warsaw; al. Kowalski Mateusz, HTS Rzeszów; Fr. Dyrda, Konrad, Przemysl, Arch. Przemysl; Fr. Bąk Stanisław, Wegierka, Arch. Przemysl; Br. Bartos Marek, Lviv, Ukraine, Albertine; Fr. Olowski Wieslaw, Ostrołeka, D. Łomza; Fr. Kuzio Andrzej, Iwla, Arch. Przemysl; Fr. Grela Franciszek, Nisko, D. Sandomierz; Fr. Kubicz, Piotr, Dzwola, D. Sandomierz; Fr. Domaraczenko Krzysztof, Wegrow, D. Drohiczyn; Fr. Skarzynski, Andrzej, Turwo, Brasil, MIC; Fr. Figiel Rafał, Jasienica, D. Łomza; al. Zamorski Tomasz, HTS Rzeszow, D. Rzeszow; al. Rybczak Oleg, HTS Lviv, Arch. Lviv, Ukraine; al. Gamrot Sebastian, HTS Opole, D. Opole; Fr. Gibzinski, Stanislaw, Portsmouth (G. Britain), Arch. Warsaw; Br. Szadkowski Kamil, Cracow, Franciscan OFM.
The championships were played 9 in rounds and at pace 1.30h per player + 30 seconds for a move. For the third time in a row Fr. Stanisław Bąk became the Polish clergy chess champion. The second and third places were taken by Fr. Andrzej Kuzio and Br. Marek Bartoś respectively.
In addition to the main tournament a rapid chess tournament (15 minutes per player) and a blitz chess tournament (5 minutes per player) took place. Fr. Wiesław Ołowski won the rapid chess tournament before Fr. Stanisław Bąk and seminarian Mateusz Kowalski and Fr. Wiesław Ołowski won the blitz chess tournament before seminarian Mateusz Kowalski and Fr. Stanisław Bąk.
An additional attraction for lovers of the royal game was the opportunity to play a simultaneous game (a chess player plays with several opponents at the same time) with the grandmistress Marta Przeździecka of Andrzejowo and Andrzej Dera, an MP. Several players were able to achieve success against these very strong chess players.
The championships provided an opportunity not only for sports competition but above all for meeting other people, sharing common passions and experiences and also an opportunity to promote this beautiful sport.
